317: more baby coots

Down at the Lagoon today I saw more baby coots. This is a newer group, hatched not so long ago. The ones I have seen previously have grown bigger, and have now lost most of the yellow and red colouring on their heads.

  1. How beautiful they are, with their fuzzy little orange coronas! A fabulous photo - you are so clever to be able to capture these pics.

  2. They are stunning- and these colours only last for a fairly short time before they get bigger and lose them and just become grey.

  3. Young birds can be such funny looking things. It is like they are draped with threads of saffron.

  4. It does indeed. Funny you should say that Andrew- I have just watched Rick Stein in Spain where he showed some people extracting saffron from crocus flowers.

  6. The ones we saw last time are much larger Anne, especially one of them- and they are all still alive.
