This first picture shows the Pacific Monarch, a sculpture by local artist Paul Dibble, outside Te Manawa, the local art gallery. Yes, there is also a big bug on the wall of the gallery, but not a real one. The bicycle in the bike stand is mine: I have become quite confident back on the bike again.
Next photo is at a friend's house. I was helping to get a photo slideshow ready for a 21st birthday and got distracted by the laundry hanging outside... but you can see the autumn tree in behind... (You think taking laundry shots is weird? I think friends and family are getting used to me taking shots in their kitchens!)
At the Esplanade autumn is making its mark, and this couple are enjoying a walk through this arcade of trees where the leaves are changing colour and starting to fall.
There were still plenty of colourful flowers in the Esplanade though, and sometimes where the light fell in gaps in the trees, the flowers greeted the sunlight in profusion.
This next river shot was taken on Sunday 24th, when everything was calm and sunny, and there was lots of gravel at the river's edge for families to wander on and for dogs to play on.
Just four days later the river presented a very different mood. After a couple of days rain, the river was flowing very full and swiftly. There was no gravel spot left to play on for the time being...
Just a few days later though and blue skies have returned. Here is the clocktower in the Square showing off the blue skies quite nicely!
And just because I like to be a bit on the quirky side sometimes... I'll finish with reflections as seen this morning in some glass windows beside the Square....
Nice pics! This reminds me that I need to get out our new Nikon camera, and start doing the same. I'm imagining that NZ in places where you live is milder in weather than where we live, due to all the ocean surrounding it. Lake Michigan kind of buffers us, but our cold season is long. We're just now beginning to be removed from it.
ReplyDeleteYes Ted, I think we have a more temperate climate. Doesn't get nearly as cold in the winter as what you have. There will be a few frosty mornings, but I will need to go to a higher altitude to play in any snow! Possibly you get some hotter days in summer though.
ReplyDeleteThe avenue of trees walk looks wonderful and I never get tired of the clock tower.
ReplyDeleteThat avenue of trees looks absolutely magnificent in the spring time with blossoms. I will have to photograph those as well!
ReplyDeleteYes, I've noticed your quirky penchant for laundry shots, Kiwi. (But perfectly acceptable. Don't get your knickers in a twist about them!)
ReplyDeletelol Robert. You have no idea quite how many kitchen shots I take.... usually I don't show them here ;-)
ReplyDeleteNice bunch of pics!! I too love the laundry shot! Nice to know there are more folk hanging stuff up instead of always using the damn machines! I loved the first pic, the sculpture...made me think of Picasso.
ReplyDeleteKarin, there is nothing I like better than to watch my laundry fluttering on the clothesline out in the wind. But I guess we are lucky here, and most of us have enough outdoor space for drying things.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteJim has passed away Kiwi... :o(
ReplyDeleteSimon, Jill told me yesterday evening, and is very shocked by the news. You will be glad you had such an adventurous time with him recently.
ReplyDeletethank you .
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are terrific. You live in a beautiful place. Makes me want to go back there!
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful place- under-rated really :-)
ReplyDeleteLove that reflections shot - it's sensational! G'day from the other side of the ditch!!
ReplyDeleteHi to a fellow Nomad! I was pleased with those reflections. I have taken photos there before, but I think the sunshine was especially bright this day, and maybe I stumbled on a better angle as well.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your pics of my home town. I'm currently in exile in Dunedin. Never thought I would be nostalgic for PN!
ReplyDeleteMy photo of Pacific Monarch is here:

The contributing to this blog is on of my study assignments this year.
Hi MIchelle, I found your Pacific Monarch photos; you do Palmy proud on your blog! Putting up blog posts is an interesting assignment topic.... There seems to be more of an awareness of 'communication' in uni science papers these days...
