Autumn trees
Driving or walking anywhere at present is full of unexpected treats. There are autumn trees around in abundance.
This tree is one of many now at a similar stage in the Esplanade, as taken two days ago. In a few months these same trees will be covered with pink blossom, a whole avenue of them.
And though it was drizzly and dull this morning at the Lagoon, the autumn reds on this tree shone forth. The green of the grass I found quite mesmerising- just a few short weeks ago we were in the grip of drought, and the lawns were brown and bare. Many days with light rain showers have wrought an amazing change.

DeleteSo what type of tree has red autumn leaves in New Zealand? Is it a maple?
ReplyDeleteI didn't go close up to this one Michèle- was heading for the water to feed the ducks- but I think it is probably a maple. We have quite a lot of maples in town- I went down a section of a street today that had them on both sides and looked glorious. But they are all 'exotic' and weren't here originally.
DeleteSimilar shades of pinky red here...but ours are the buds ready to pop! Funny how both ends of the season have similar color profiles!
ReplyDeleteI must say I was heartened this morning when I did a little weeding to realise that the shoots of the spring bulbs are coming up already. A hopeful sight when you know the cold of winter is about to descend!
